I made an audio (music) DVD with audio DVD creator. It works fine in my
sony stand alone but when I try in the car DVD player I get the menu/splash
screen and the counter runs indicating it is playing the songs but I get no
volume. I have tried with different settings etc. but no difference. My
car player will play video DVD's I make with no trouble.

Thanks for any ideas.

Chris,

Are you making a DVD-Audio (so-called DVD-A) format disk or a DVD-Video disk
which only contains an audio/music track? Each is authored differently and
plays on different players...

I think I am making the later ... What I am trying to accomplish is put my
audio books on DVD so as to reduce the number of disks I need when listening
in the car.

Chris,

I am going to assume you are making a standard DVD-Video disk, since the
other format takes more specialized and much less common software.

One likely possibility is that you have authored your disks with mpeg audio
rather than Digital Dolby (AC3) or linear PCM (LPCM) audio format. MPEG
format audio is commonly used in home DVD authoring but is seldom if ever
found on commercial disks.

My theory is that your Sony "standalone" player is set to properly decode
mpeg audio disks and your car player is not. This would explain why you can
hear the audio tracks on the Sony and not in the car. I would suggest you go
through the menus / owner instructions for your car player and find the menu
setting which allows your car player to play back mpeg (rather than Digital
Dolby or LPCM) audio, and your disks should then play fine in the car.

Hope this helps.

I think I have recorded in PCM, I made a disk with AC3 but have not tried it
yet. I think these are the only two choices that the program lets you use
to record the disk.

Thanks for the info, I will look to see if my car deck will let me make the
changes you reccomend.

So far it seems if I make a disk using the PCM format I get no audio in the
car. If I use AC3 format it seems to work so far.

I can't imagine a good reason to use PCM in the car anyway, Chris, since it
will consume vastly more space for the same music, and any sonic benefits of
PCM over AC3 will be lost in an automobile environment as well.

Glad to hear that my original theory and suggestion / solution were correct.
