Will a dvd recorder copy a movie dvd to it's harddrive and than let you
copy it to a blank dvd disc.If so what is a good brand to get.

NOt if they are commercial disks. Possibly your homemade movie DVDs can be
copied that way, but studio releases are copy-protected...

Pioneer is a good brand to get.

Also Panasonic and Philips are popular brands.

Plus length could be an issue as most of us don't buy Dual Layer discs even
if we have the capability due to the cost.
