I tried to use Virtualdub to split some AVI (MPEG4) files, but I get a
message that a codec is missing. Apparently Virtualdub insists on VFW
codecs, and FFDSHOW does not qualify.

I normally happily use FFDSHOW, and I don't really want to install more
codecs if I don't absolutely have to. Can anybody suggest another tool
that I can use to split my AVIs?

Perhaps I don't need a reply.

If I understand correctly, FFDSHOW has a VFW stub that I should be able
to configure and have it work with VFW-based applications like
Virtualdub.
