Stitching avi without compression |
|
|
Is there any way to stitch together multiple avi files without
re-compressing them? I've used VirtualDub, configured divx for
"fastest", which uses less compression, but the video suffers.
I just want to stitch the segments together. If I had 4-10mb files I
thought I should end up with 1-40mb file.
Is this possible?
Any help would be appreciated.

Open the first one with VirtualDub (select direct stream copy for video to
avoid reencoding), add the others via append segment. Then Save As. If you
are lucky and the files are compatible, you will be able to put them
together this way. Tested with VirtualDubMod, but I guess VirtualDub works
the same way. |

Thank you very much. That worked great. And fast too!

I thought it was o.k. but on one job that had 10 different avi files it
stitched them together but it repeated the compilation about 6 or so
times in one file. Any clues?
Thanks,

That seems to be an unexpected quirk in VirtualDub. If there are
three files, when you try to append the second AVI segment to the
first segment you've opened, VD seems to append everything in that
particular folder. You would wind up with segments two and three
appended even though you had selected only segment two.
Append only one file and see if that doesn't get them all. The only
way I've found to append only one at a time is to have each file to be
appended in a different folder.

There used to be this utility called "Peck's Power Join" that was good
for that if the image sizes were the same - all it does is strip the
header records for each AVI, join the binary files, and create a new
header record for the completed file... |

You're a genius. Both methods worked.
Thanks,

Yea... |
And in linux I now have:
ls /usr/local/bin/avi*
/usr/local/bin/avidump /usr/local/bin/avimerge /usr/local/bin/avisync
/usr/local/bin/avifix /usr/local/bin/avisplit
/usr/local/bin/aviindex
something with merge should do it.....
Think it is part of transcode.
