Of course you could mean an Authoring program itself.
Then the "Best" would be "Sonic Solutions Scenarist", but
if you don't have an extra $9000+ laying around, there is
"DVDLab Pro" for $200 which can do almost everything
Scenarist can. For ease of day to day use, I much prefer
TDA, its workflow and defaults match the way I like to
work.
While TDA doesn't provide the level of control over menu
structure and command implementation of DVDLab, nor will
it do subtitles or more than two audio tracks; I find it is much
simpler and faster to work with. TDA can quickly and easily
produce DVDs with menus that can have any visual
appearance I can dream up. So, for me, TDA is the "Best"
for normal use.
Luck;

If you literally mean writing, and not authoring, Nero Ultra V. 6.

Don't waste you time trying to find "The Best" as there will be no "The
Best". |

Ken, |
I have just recently started making my own DVDs and am using TDA. However,
it seems to "struggle" when I write to Verbatim DVD-RWs, and takes a long
time. No problem with DVD-Rs. Therefore, I have stated using ImgToolBurn
when using -RWs...it is noticeably faster. |

Interesting, I'll have to keep that in mind. I'll run some speed
tests with the RiData RW disks I use on my DVD Recorder,
to convert VHS tapes into DVDs. I haven't used RWs with
TDA's burning app., as far as I can remember.

I, of course, have and use Nero, but for simple DVD burning
the application in TDA works great. Now it may be that it
won't work with your burner, even Nero doesn't work with
them all. (Especially if you have the wrong version number.)
You may be deluded into thinking that the term "burn" includes
an encoding process, such as Nero Express will do. If so you
are right TDA will not "burn" an AVI file into a DVD.
But it does indeed have a "Burn facility".

Hmmm... TDA is a DVD Author Program which author directly to HARD DRIVE,
then option to burn to DVD-R or DVD-RW 9whatever you wish) only *after*
authored. And if you don't like the TDA's built-in burner, you can use
whatever third part program you wish, and I don't think it will make any
difference or not much difference in speed. |
