My stand-alone recorder can do it easily. I just copy (dub) the movie
from the DVD-R(W) to the hard drive and then dub it back to another DVD-R.
I can do whether the disc has been finalized or not.

If the problem with your set-up is that the disc was finalized, an -RW can
be unfinalized.

Is it not possible to just make a bit by bit copy of the original DVD
to a blank DVD?

You can drag and drop the files from a DVD-RW in Video Mode, Standard
Play to a Hard drive; then copy those files to a DVD-R. This assumes
that the camcorder has a USB2 or firewire port.

Some recorders create DVD-RWs in VR mode, rather than DVD Video mode
(it might be documented in the recorder's manual). I don't know much
about this, but not all computer S/W can recognize it and not all set
top boxes can play it, in my experience.

You might do well to search for some downloadable programs (free, let's
hope) than can handle this, if your recorder's manual agrees with me.

Gino

The manual says when I format the disk it is in video format. When I
put the dvd -r in the burner in my computer it likes them. I just put
dvd decryper it does not recognize the dvd -rw, neither does Nero.
Thanx

you must use DVD+RW to get correct video format. -RW will only give you
VR format

I use DVD-R discs and can format them as Video discs.
In my case it depends on what options I've selected in the setup menu.

My DVD recorder will only take the DVD -RW/R and DVD -RAM. It is a

Panasonic. So the problem is the DVD - RW.

It depends on the brand of DVD recorder. I can choose either VR or video mode.
