The New Pioneer DVD recorder that replaces the popular 720 model will
have all the features of the 720 but will be able to record to dual
layer DVD discs and copy at a faster speed.

Can it record from an external camera feed onto full size (125mm?) DVD?

The new models (433, 530 and 630) was released here in Europe a month ago.

Our experience so far:

They do more or less the same as the old models. However, the disc navigator
has been rewritten and the global font size used in menus and more are
smaller now.

The timer has been build around the EPG from GuidePlus+, and this is a
drawback when used in countries where GuidePlus+ is not available. I stopped
recommending the new Pioneer models because of that. Its really silly, you
loose the overview both when programming and checking the timer events ....
but you may have another version of the firmware in your part of the world
(hopefully).

The function for manual Chapter Marks from the remote control has been
removed.

Sound in 1,5 x FF/REW has been improved.

You can edit clips while recording, with the exception of the clip being
recorded.

You can start a highspeed copy while recording.

You don't need to point the remote control directly at the recorder any
more. Its not that sensitive any more.

The display is bigger now - more readable at longer distances.

**A lot of people are ranting about the new Pio's EPG on avsforum.com
(among some other problems). I was surprised to see problems until I
realized most of them dealt with the EPG.

The TVGuide on my Panny e85 was awful. Glitchy as hell and the Panny's
software couldn't deal with it. It froze everytime I turned it on.
Finally, I got the TVGuide to disappear completely after having the
recorder unplugged for two weeks. When I started it back up, it was as
though I had just plugged in a new machine. I set up TVGuide to some
extent (you have to in order to program the timer manually) and then
let it do the auto-channel thing. It's had no problems since then.

WHY DO THEY REMOVE FEATURES??
Some of the features they removed were very useful such as the
"manually adding chapters marks from remote control" and the sound in
1.5x FF.
You may not thing the sound in 1.5/xFF would be useful but if you
recorded the news and wanted to find a certain news item spoken by the
news reader then the 1.5xFF was a faster way of doing this.

I'm pleased I brought the Pioneer 720 when I did rather than wait a
while.

I don't know.

The sound in 1,5x FF has been improved - not removed :-)

The 1,5x sound was good in Pioneer 720, but is exelent in the new models.
Now it really sounds like they just speak faster, and there is no "clicking
noises" in the background.

Stick to it.

An improvement on a useful feature is always welcome.
If the new model DVD recorder won't allow manually adding chapters
from the remote control then how are chapters added. I can't see any
better way of doing this than pressing a button on the remote control
when I find a suitable place to add a chapter on the video.

You need to use the Chapter Edit function afterwards.
