Magnavox DVD Player Won't Transmit Video |
|
|
Forgetful me left my Magnavox DVD player on the other day for
several hours while I left my home. When I returned home, I felt
the player was hot to my touch. I unplugged it, allowing it to cool
off for a few hours. Later on, I inserted a dvd into it and
the only signal I could receive was the audio. The video signal
failed to transmit. I interchanged the plugs and got the same
result. I used a Philips lens cleaner to clean the lens, but again,
same result. Does someone know of a similar experience
and whether this problem can be fixed?

Leaving your player on for hours shouldn't have hurt it, and it
shouldn't have gotten hot.
I strongly suspect that some component broke, and that it was pure
coincidence that it happened at the time it did.
If you'd left it off, it might just have broken a few days later, when
enough usage time had accumulated to break whichever component failed.
If the laser was bad or dirty, the audio probably wouldn't have worked
either, so I suspect some internal video-related circuit is what
failed.
BTW, have you checked to make sure that it isn't the TV set or its
video input that broke?
HTH,

It's remotely possible it somehow got set to progressive if your TV
doesn't support it. Or maybe component output is not enabled? If you
normally use the component output, try double-checking the S-Video and
composite outputs.
Otherwise, DVD players are so cheap, you might as well buy a new one.
Most are just names slapped on generic made-in-China players these days.

I tried my other DVD player (Sony), which played well through the
same TV. The only other option left would be to feed this Mag player
through another TV. |

You might have had something blocking the ventilation holes causing
the player to heat up.

Well, it was heated up, but I don't recall any blockages. Anyways,
thanks for your input. I will try hooking it up to another of my
TVs very soon, even if I have to play it through a VCR. |

Thanks - I should have thought of that...
