Will a progressive scan DVD player make the picture better on a TV like this
or does the TV specifically have to be able to accept a progressive signal?
If progressive will work i will get the Sony $190ish player but if it doesnt
any recomendations for a DVD player to go with this TV?

Your TV doesn't output progressive scan. Do some reading.

For progressive scan to work you need a DVD Player AND a display device that
BOTH support Progressive scan.
Normally you don't get high end features (progressive scan) on low end
products (teac)
