I am looking for some softare that will download my miniDV's to the PC and
also burn and ecode with MPEG4(I am assuming this is the highest quality
encoding available??).

Software to "capture" From a digital camcorder for free - You'll struggle to
beat WinDV, it's also free.

Software to burn CD's, Nero, but it's not free :(.

Software to convert DV format AVI's to Mpeg4 class files with the best
possible quality - VirtualDub, you'll probably have to source a DV Codec,
Search for a megacodec pack on the intner, some are available, these often
include what you need, and some even include the real audio codec WITHOUT
the player, so that you can play real audio streams with Media Player.

If you want some instructions on how to manage this, just ask. BTW You'll
need loads of disc space, and a bit of time.
