Hi

I have got a DivX file where the audio is out of sync with the video so I
wanted to demux both the audio and video so that I could remux them together
and introduce an 'offset' for the audio, to hopefully re-sync them both.

Could anyone suggest a piece of software that could do that please...?

Thanks for any help

Ed

There are many ways, but is this not also a virtual dub feature?

I have used it to remux with delay, do not remember if I used it to demux.

Thanks for your help. I have used Vdub and it allows me to strip the sound
as a WAV file and then I can manipulate that as I wish but.....

It doesn't seem to allow me to demux the file so that I have two seperate
ones, one for the video and one for the sound, unless I'm missing
something...?

I did try TMPGenc but, as I thought anyway, it will not handle DivX files.

I have found out I that I need to 'advance the audio and so have used Cool
Edit Pro to chop the 0.5sec needed at the start off the audio file that Vdub
allowed me to strip out of the DivX but I can't demux it.

VirtualDub can handle resynching. It's really not necessary to demux
as a separate step. Under Audio > Interleaving... you'll find a block
for entering audio skew in ms (use positive values if audio is playing
to early and negative if it's playing too late). Video should be set
to "Direct stream copy."

If you need to process the audio with an external program, first
convert it to PCM and then copy (File > Save WAV...).

This won't work with an AC3 soundtrack that you want to keep as AC3.
VD can "read" AC3 with the help of AC-3 ACM Decompressor and can
convert it to PCM, but it can't save AC3.

Sorry, I posted a reply before I saw this message. Once you've
processed audio in Cool Edit, you can mux it with the video with VD by
going to Audio > WAV Audio... "New" audio will replace the old.
Leave audio as PCM for any needed resynching. You can convert to
another format such as MP3 once synching is exactly the way you want
it.

And using the above method worked fine. Many thanks for your help :)

I was over complicating the issue as I never knew of the ability of VD to
introduce a delay or advance in the audio of a file, in relation to the
video, without having to demux it and edit the audio file to either insert a
silence or chop a bit off at the start...!!!!

Many thanks again and abandoned the need to use Cool Edit Pro as VD has done
a wonderful job, with your help.

You're very welcome! Glad it worked for you. I'm always amazed at
the things VD can do well, especially since it's free.
