I have Nero 5.5 which reboots the computer as soon as I click on the
icon. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled but to no avail. Any help
greatly appreciated.

Only the obvious. Upgrade to a newer version such as 6++.
I have been using 5.5 for DVD burning for well over a year now with my
Pioneer A06 and have burned several hundred DVD's. This combo is fast and
flawless which is why i have not upgraded. If it ain't broke don't fix it I
always say.

At startup, Nero probes all of your IDE devices looking for CD/DVD
burners. Unfortunately, this happens to provoke a crash from some
IDE device drivers that don't properly handle the probe request.

One IDE driver that is known to crash when probed by Nero is Intel's
RAID driver (packaged as "Intel Application Accelerator"). Version 3.5x
will crash. If you upgrade to Intel Application Accelerator 4.5 or later
(free on Intel's web site), the new version will work fine with Nero.

I had this problem myself, and it took a while to discover the solution.
I sure wish Ahead would document this problem and solution on their
support page.

For those seeing this problem who do not have Intel RAID drivers, try
updating the device drivers for any other IDE devices in your system.

Finally, be sure you have applied the latest patche to Nero 5.5
available from Ahead's web site.
