Problem recording Cable channels above Channel 22 |
|
|
I have two Emerson VCR 6000 recorders and have Cox cable service. THe
Cox cable goes into my VCR which is then fed into the TV. I have never
had any problem recording programs on any of the COX channels until
about 6 weeks ago when all at once there is nothing recorded when I've
programed Channel 48 (the Comedy CHannel here in San Diego). The VCR
runs but all you get is 30 minutes of white noise. Now when I play the
TV with the VCR turned off, I can see all the channels, including
CHannel 48, but if I turn on the VCR and hit the VCR/TV button to play
through the VCR, I get all the programs for channels 1 through 22, but
anything about 22 is noise.
Now since I can view ALL channels through the TV with the VCR turned
off, this tells me the cable is working and somehow there's somehing
amiss in the VCR -- but why ONLY channels above 22??
Any ideas on why would be welcomed.

Questions:
1) You say you have TWO of these VCRs. Does this occur on BOTH VCRs,
or only just the one?
2) Did you accidentally switch the reception frequencies from "CABLE"
to "UHF/VHF"? (Usually a switch or a menu function.) Channel 22's
UHF frequency of 523 MHz is suspiciously close to the upper end
of Cox's analog cable coverage. Look for this switch/menu function. |

ANSWERS: #1: Yes, it occured on both VCRs; however, I may have only
tried to tape from one of them, and with the other one which is attached
to a different TV (in another room from the other!!), I probably
accessed channel 48 via the TV and not through the VCR.
#2: You are right. Both VCR's had the switch set to TV and Not CATV!!
Now how the one where I tried to record got switched, I don't know, but
that is obviously happened, since at one time I was recording channel 48
with no problems.
THEREFORE, the problem is solved and THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! |

You probably have the tuner in the vcr tuned for
off air tv, and it will not tape anything except
channels 2-13 and the mid-band, which is 14
thru 22, which are actually located between chs
6 and 7.
