"No Disk" what has gone wrong? |
|
|
Hey to all and thanks for any reply,
I finally finished my first movie (in Ulead 7 se).
It is 1.20 hours, added a menu and then burned it to a 4xDVD+R.
It played ok on the PC in "Winfast DVD".
I stuck it then in the DVD player but it didn't play, On the TV was
only a "No Disk".
Next I but the DVD into the PC again to play it with Windows Media
Player, but no Pic only sound.
Can you give me a pointer what has gone wrong here?
Regards Gery
Tanks for any reply

In general, DVD-R is for DVD video (movies), and DVD+R is for data
(backups). If your goal is to make video movies, you should be using
DVD-R as it is the 'most' compatible for standalone DVD players.

You might try making a shorter movie for testing purposes. Have you checked
the ULead site? the sites below have a lot of info. Try slowing the
burning speed, and make sure nothing else in running. Try making a DVD
image with ULead and then use another program to burn it. You can download
Nero Trial for 30 days. If you have Easy CD Creator 6 you can also burn DVD
images, but may have to change the extension to .ISO from .IMG.

In my experience, the +R media works better than the -R, everything I read
says the +Rs are closer to store bought media. Also the +Rs can be changed
to DVD-ROMs which make them more compatible with older DVD Players. I
believe the -Rs cannot be changed in this way. And a -R I tried in my set
top would not play but the +R would.
Anyway, my +Rs are working great in my older DVD player once I got the
burner to do the Bit Setting correctly. In case you are wondering, when
they were not set correctly I got a "Disk Error" message when they were
inserted. But if Bit Setting is the problem, you should be able to play the
DVD in a newer player.

Your set top player probably doesn't support DVD+R discs. Make the exact same
burn, but use a DVD-R disc. If it plays, that's your answer. Not an uncommon
one either.

Since the responses have slowed down, I will add one last comment. Someone
else suggested your encoding scheme and it appears your problem probably is
in that area. I would have to just guess you are encoding the DVDs for
computers only. Go back and check all your settings and your burner and
whatever so see if something has changed.
I have lost track but have you made a very short, simple DVD to test your
player?
What I was saying about Bit Setting or Book Type, on my player shows a "Disk
Error" , so yours showing a "No Disk" would lead me to believe you have a
wrong format for the player to even see.
Good Luck,
Clark

Thanks all for your pointers, I finally got it. My DVD did play on my
daughters DVD,
I have a Voxson DVD250 and it did play every thing I stuck in it
including some DVD+R's, except the DVD+R I burned my first movie on.
A search did show that more pupil with the same DVD player had a
problem with +R 's. One reported he got his Voxson DVD250 to play
DVD+R's with the book type set to DVD-ROM, what ever that does mean.
Anyhow to make it short I burned the movie again and this time with
Nero on a DVD-R. My DVD player did play it ok, except one type of
transition is jittery.
Just to make sure I'll burn my movie again on a DVD+R but this time
with Nero.
