Advice Needed: Camera for Young Student? Sony TRV 460
I am researching video cameras for my 12 year old who does video
editing.
The guy did great with a 10 yr old Sony Hi8 Handycam, but it died....
Is there a better, more reliable and cheaper camera than the Sony
TRV 460 ?
I know I need :
Digital Media
Fire Wire out
Image Stabilization
Good Low Light Capability
Maybe a spotlight/nightlight
backwards compatible
LOW PRICE
Doesn't matter:
Camera Size
Tape size
Still Capture
Thanks

I'd just get another hi-8 camera off of ebay. I still shoot with one.
The cameras are dirt cheap and the tapes are dirt cheap. Video quality
is basically as good as what you'd get from most cheap mini-DV cameras.
You can certainly get better quality, but you'll have to pay real bucks
for it. So far I've felt satisfied with what I get from the hi-8 camera.
If I shoot something serious someday, I might get a better camera for
that purpose, but would also want to get good lights, microphones, etc.
And that stuff really adds up.

Why do you think you need those? I just use the analog video input
built into my laptop for importing video from my hi-8 camera and it
works fine. No digital media or firewire needed.

All cheap cameras have this now, at least digital stabilization.
Optical stabilization will cost more. Neither type of stabilization
will stabilize the image nearly as much as a tripod will, so try
a tripod.

Not in a low-bucks camera you won't, except maybe a very old one with
large CCD's.

My camera has that but I never use it. Just set up some lamps or
something.

With what?

I agree-or even a simple 8 mm camera that has been long on stock, like the
one I own.It will do;of course a hi-8 will beat all the digital crap.

Is there a chance to repair it?

Better get a new one.

The video quality is much better.

Why?Record a good old VHS tape.Chances are hight that your friend will view |
it (DVD +- RW ; RAM etc.incombatibility issues).

Low bucks doesn't mean low quality;mine cost 400 euro with credit (8 times * |
50 euro note)
