I have been using Roxio Easy Creator 6 Platinum for about a year now to
burn my home movies to DVD using a Memorex 2.4x drive. Just recently NONE
of my burned DVD's will work on ANY of my DVD players. I have a Sony that
is about 2 years old, one Toshiba built into a 13" TV that is a year old and
one other Sony that is less than a year old. The last Sony is one of the
new ones that read everything including MP3 disks.

Just 2 months ago EVERY DVD that I burned work on EVERY DVD Player. I have
been using the same spindle of Fuji DVD+R media so I don't think it was the
medai. To be sure I have even went out and purchased a spindle of TDK DVD+R
and Memorex DVD+R Media. I have even went out and got another DVD Burner
that does +R, -R, +RW, and -RW and tried that to be sure it just was not the
drive and I still have the same problem. I even went an got some -R media.

The burns all seem to go through OK and I can read them on my PC and my
Laptop, but not any of the DVD players that I have been using successfully
for about a year. I went to Best Buy and was able to read the DVD on one of
those portable Polaroid PVD-0700 7" DVD players.

The only thing that I could think of that changed on my system in the last
few months was that I also purchased DVD X Copy 3.2.1 and installed it, but
never ran it. I have since uninstalled DVD X Copy, Uninstalled Easy
Creator, then finally Reinstalled Easy Creator and all the updates. Still I
don't have any success getting my DVD's tu run on anything other than a PC
or that one portable Polaroid.

Are you sure that the DVD MPEG2 stream that you created
is MPEG2 compliant? The software on your PC/Laptop is
probably more forgiving of issues like incorrect GOP
size or other non-standard things in the MPEG2 stream.

One thing you should probably do is take an old DVD that
you created that still works, and make a copy of it
using your software.

(I don't use the Roxio products other then to burn the
final ISO file for DVDs that I create.)

I don't think it was the data because I have a kids DVD (Thomas the Train)
that does not have the encryption on it and that does not copy either.

When I completed all my personal home movies, I created an ISO image out of
each of them. When ever I had to give one to family I would just burn the
ISO image and they always worked. Now all of them still burn without error,
but now none of them work.

I bet it has something to do with DVD X Copy. Have you gone to their site
about problems with conflicting software? Do you have the recording turned
on for Windows? Have you done any firmware upgrades?

It seems strange since your newer Set top player and your computer are such
close relatives that it would play in one and not the other. Maybe you are
burning a format that only the computer can recognize. Maybe some of your
settings got changed without you knowing it.

The .ISO thing still has me a little puzzled. I know that both Pinnacle's
Impression and Adobe's Encore make DVD images using the .IMG extension. I
am puzzled because neither Nero or Easy CD will natively use that extension.
You can change it to .ISO and it will work, but why don't the other programs
see it.

I am almost certain that it was DVD X Copy that caused this problem as well.
I did go to their site to see if there are issues with other software and
was suprised to see that DVD X Copy seems to have issues with EVERY software
burning program. I did not see anything that specifically describes my
problem but most of the solutions said uninstall and reinstall is the way to
go, but that still has not helped.

Yes, it is strange that Easy Creator has no option that I can see to create
an ISO image however it does burn them. I actually use a freeware tool to
change the directory structure to and ISO image. I believe it is
Imgtool.exe.

I wouldn't know where to tell you to look for the X copy thing, but I know
some software installs stuff that does not get removed during an uninstall,
or perhaps something was set and has not been reset.

The new burner you got, do you know if it does Bit Setting to make the DVDs
more compatible with the older DVD players (Plextors don't unless modified)?
Of course this should not be relevant because your older burner has the same
problem. Did you do any Firmware changes on it? Maybe some other part of
your process is at fault. I make images with Pinnacle's Impression (not
recommended) and change the extension to .ISO to use Easy CD to burn it.

Do you have a friend that could burn a DVD for you to decide whether the
image file or your computer is the problem? You could download Nero Trial
and use it to check.

Along the lines of the burners, I believe some changes to the way a burner
behaves it entered into the firmware and is set. You might try doing a
firmware change to replace any settings X copy may (or may not) have put
there. I would go back to what I know once worked (old burner) and start
from there.
