I don't think DVD Shrink cares what burner you have. Because
1. It can shrink and save the output to HARD DRIVE
2. It doesn't have built-in burning option itself, but it has built-in
front-end to load other like NERO. Also, I am not 100% sure if the latest
version has built-in burning option (???)
3. If you have more than one burner installed, then you may need to select
the one you want it to use/recognize (from the burner list). |

It only gives me three options: Sony Burner, ISO and Harddrive |

Does other program recognize the Plextor? if they don't then either
something is wrong with
1. Connection
2. Driver
3. Conflict with other hardware
4. Master/Slave setting problem.
*If* other has no problem but DVD Shrink does, then it's odd. |

Recognition matters. Because if Shrink doesn't recognize
the drive, then it can't shrink a dvd in that drive.
I've had the problem in other contexts. I had an old Cd-rom
that would only partially read newer dvds. It amounted to
my not being able to use the rom.

DVD Shrink can shrink from hard drive folder and save to hard drive
folder. If there is something wrong with the DVD structure then DVD Shrink
(and most DVD programs) will refuse loading it.
In this case, you may have to Re-Author the DVD. Again, many DVD Authors
may not read the problem DVD structure, so you will need to add VOB file
just like MPG.
- Again, most DVD authors (TDA for example) can read .VOB *but* by default
they are programmed to look for .MPG (not .VOB or even .MPEG). So, you
will have to tell it to Look and Load *.VOB
- Not all DVD Authors, but some (like TDA for example) will speed up the
VOB file (or MPG with 48k audio) and you should be able to author the
DVD within 15-25 mins depending on your CPU speed.
I don't know anything about your old CD-ROM (or CD-ROM can't read DVD as
they are 2 different formats). I never heard of Newer and Older DVD, except
something about the AUDIO_TS folder, but it won't stop you from reading.

One problem could be that your version of Nero is and oem version that
will only reconize the Sony drive especially if you have selected from
the drop down list. Just a thought.
