Thanks very much Ed N. and KandyKop. I appreciate the input. I used
compression fittings from a set I purchased from Data Shark from Home
Depot and will go forward with purchasing an amplifier. Thanks again.

Mike,
Since you have run new Cat 5 and coax to 8 locations, I assume that these come from one point such as a mechanical room. The cable modem can reside at your panel at that point. Split the incoming signal with either a 2 way splitter or a 6 to 9 dB valule directional coupler (DC). Feed the cable modem with the 2nd output of the 2-way, or the tap leg of the DC.
You need an amplifier that overcomes the loss of your spliiter, in this case a 8-way, or a combination of spliiters to get 8 ports. This loss is 11.5dB. Use a 10 to 15 dB gain amplifier, that has at least 860 to 1000 MHz of bandwidth. Feed the amp with the other output leg of the 2-way, or the through leg of the DC.
Since the cable modem is before the amp, a 2 way amp is not required, unless you have set top boxes that require communication to the cable company for things like Pay Per View (PPV) or Video on Demand (VOD). If a 2 way amp is needed, then the gain should be 0 to 10 dB in the upstream or reverse direction. The local cable company is probably the best place to buy this amp, as they have quality products.
With the cable modem at the control point, the wiring for the ethernet cable is simplified. Either wire all the Cat 5's to a 8 port hub, and feed the input from the cable modem, or for more flexibility, wire the Cat 5's to a patch panel.
As a side note, if the local cable company offers Voice over IP (VoIP), installing the MTA terminal at the control point allows easy access to the in house telephone network. You can also split the pairs of the Cat 5 cables to provide both telephone and ethernet on the same cable, or use the two sets of pairs to provide a loop from one ethernet device, back to the patch panel, and on to another ethernet device. An example of this would be if you had the cable modem in a seperate room, and wanted to feed back to your hub at the control point.
At the termination point in each individual room, install a wall box that has multiple use termination jacks that all fit onto one wall plate. These would be at minimum a CATV jack and a J-45 jack(ethernet), but could also be J-11 (telephone) jacks. You can get as creative as you want with the amount of wire that you have pulled.
Now, a word about ingress interference. It is a good practice to minimize the chances of getting interferece on the coax, which is turns maximizes the quality of the cable modem communications. If 2 way services are not required for set top boxes, then the one way amplifier provides a high degree of isolation to the rest of the in-house coax wiring. If 2 way service is required, high pass filters (i.e.50 - 1000 MHz) on the legs that don't require the 2 way communication is recommended. Terminate all unused cable that are tied into your network, both coax and Cat 5. Only use quality compression type coax connectors, not the screw on type you can buy at the local electronics store, and then use the proper compression tool. Once again, you could borrow, buy or rent these from the local cable company. They should be happy to help, as the installation directly affects their own network.

Cable chipping is stealing the cable programming ,nothing else.
You don't require a chip, you just want one to steal cable programmning.
If you lost your cable and want it back without stealing, call the

Dosn't matter. It is still stealing when one defeats the securit of a
cable access box to get programming without paying.
