Even TW's cable guy has been unable to help me on this. I have been trying
to record to VCR programs that I have saved on the DVR. I have the
red/white/yellow (TO VCR) wired out to the VCR in. The program shows it is
being recorded on the PIP. Nothing is being played back. I have the VCR
red/white/yellow to the video in on my HDTV. If I playback a pre-recorded
VHS tape to the TV from the VCR it works. So......he used coax from the VCR
in/out to the TV in/out. Still no playback. Nw they called to tell me that
they have a newer edition DVR that they are coming out to install. Any
ideas on this problem? Everything is cabled according to the TW web pages I
have researched.

Are you sure it's supposed to work? You didn't say what box you have.
I have a Scientific Atlanta 8000HD from Comcast. In the manual it
says:
"Note: The VCR connection shown here is for archiving program content
stored on the 8000HD to a VCR. The VCR archive connectors will be
activiated as a future feature."

I haven't tried to see if they work, but I think there has to be some
sort of firmware update to activiate them.

Note in the subject line I identified it as the 8000HD. I'm not even sure
if the cable guy knows if it is suppose to work. This a.m. was his second
trip to the house. He replaced the box with another. That one wouldn't
even produce color on the TV! He has made several calls to his people, and
we still are unable to record onto the VCR. I questioned him several times
if this box had been activated. I don't think he was sure. Bottom
line.......they are sending a "technician" out on Monday afternoon to look
at it. Forgot to say this is Time Warner. I do know the DVI feature has
not been activated, nor has the IR, nor has the card reader.

Oops! Sorry. Yes that's the same as mine.

I would be interested to see if you get it working, although I can't
see why I would want to use such a feature. When I can make a DVD in
HD of a recorded program, then I'll have something. But I'm not
holding my breath.

It's a "what if" scenario. You have something recorded on the DVR, but
might want to save it or pass it along to someone else, or even want to
replay it on another TV. But......it's a feature that is advertised and
should work.
