Ok, I admit my terminology may not be up to par, but, I have two
scenarios that I need a resolution for. I have been using Vegas 4,
upgraded to 5 not long ago, however if Vegas can't do this and there is
another product that I would need to use please make suggestions.

Situation 1: I have a video shot from a tripod which is static, does not
move throughout the scene. However in the background scenery there is a
product billboard advertisement that I do not want in my final edit.
Naturally the placement of the billboard is also static, does not move.
However I DO have activity occasionally pass in front of the billboard
which I -do- want to preserve.

First question: Is there any way for me to, say, replace the image of the
billboard with another (perhaps another image or manufactured background)
so that it looks natural rather than 'video trickery'?

Second question: I think I know how to handle the first question in it's
simplest form, at least in Vegas I can replace with color using the
"cookie cutter" tool - but the problem is when activity happens IN FRONT
OF the billboard I am trying to eliminate; the "cookie cutter" tool for
example blocks anything happening in that portion of the screen.

The billboard in question is a multicolored advertisement, and although
not much activity passes in front, there is some. I am trying to make
the editing "trick" as invisible as possible to the end user so that it
doesn't seem so "obvious" that any trick was done - as that would be
distracting and unprofessional...

Situation 2: This is a no-brainer. Birth video. Got a video of the
birth of my son. I shot it as G-rated as possible so it would be
suitable for anyone to view, however there are a few brief key moments
where, well you know, there are portions of the image I would like
blurred out or masked. As opposed to situation 1, this can and would be
blatant editing; just like you would see with videos of people (like on
the TV "Cops" show where you blur out somebody's face you don't want
identified in a moving video). How would I blur out a specific area of
the video? And if I can do this (and more importantly), how could I make
the blurred portion stay where it needs to be while the subject moves
around the screen?

Any tips would be helpful, regardless of the product needed (but
preferably geared towards Vegas) - just that I know it can be done and
what my options are.

Thanks!
Mox
