I have just bought a Cambridge Audio DVD55 player and would like to
make sure I am setting it up correctly when it is connected to my
older TV. I found the Cambridge Audio User Manual very vague when it
was describing the onscreen setup choices. Anyway - here is my
setup...

Hitachi C2546TN television, 4:3 nicam stereo - this TV has two scart
inputs on the back, but they are labelled and described differently...
AV1 is a full RGB scart and AV2 is described as s-VHS/Hi8 input. The
manual recommends connecting computers and similar to AV1 and videos
to AV1 or AV2. In the back of the manual the pinouts for the two
sockets are drastically different.

I currently have my Video (Panasonic NV-FJ630B - PAL) (through the
BlueYonder Cable Decoder) connected via scart to the AV1 socket and
the DVD player hooked to the AV2 socket. Video playback is fine on
AV1. I don't have any DVDs yet to test, but the DVD player's onscreen
menu displays perfectly on the screen and CD playback routes to the TV
speakers successfully, so I assume it is happy on the AV2 socket.

Q : is the AV2 socket the "best" for the DVD player or should I swap
the Video and DVD round on the TV's scart sockets?

On to the DVD player setup...

In the General Setup menu, the TV Display offers Normal/PanScan,
Normal/Letterbox and Widescreen. It is currently set to
Normal/Letterbox.

Q : What do the first two options do to DVD playback on my 4:3 screen
(say the Shrek2 DVD which is widescreen format)?

Also in the General Setup menu, the Scart option offers YCbCr or RGB.

Q : What the heck is this and which do I need to choose to use scart
to the TV?

Thanks in advance for some help here.
