Slower than burning from your hard drive or roughly the same speed, as CD-CD
copies?

On a properly configured modern computer, the times will be the same. The
burner would be the limiting factor; the speed at which it could burn. This
assumes, of course, that your DVD reader is at least as fast as your DVD
writer.
