I bought the 1910 because I am about to buy an HDTV and I wanted the
DVI out.

I set up the system using a Denon 3805 receiver. I was happy with the
picture and sound, although I haven't seen the progressive picture
yet.

I had a change of heart and took the 1910 back and bought the 2910.
The 2910 was placed in the same system using the same cables and heard
at the same volume.

I noticed no difference in the picture, but, I didn't compare
progressive scan on an HDTV.

There was a huge difference in the sound. The 1910 reproduced the
mids and highs very well, but I felt the bass was lacking. Overall,
the 2910 produced a much fuller sound, with much, much better bass
definition. The difference was not subtle. Let me put it this way,
my 10 year old could tell the difference immediately.

I compared the following movies and had the following results:
- Gladiator
- Battles scenes had much more bass and much fuller sound
- Closing credits soundtrack sounded louder (remember it is the
same sytem at the same settings), but otherwise the sound wasn't
noticeably different.
- Jurassic Park
- The T Rex didn't give the floor a shake on the 1910. On the
2910 the subwoofer gave a noticeable shake.
- Lord of the Rings, Twin Towers
- The battle scenes on the 1910 had weak bass, whereas on the
2910 you could really feel the Ork army marching and pounding their
weapons on the ground.

On the basis solely of sound, the comparison was not even close. The
2910 had far better bass and a fuller, louder sound on the exact same
system played at the exact same levels. I don't know about the video,
but the improvement in sound would make the 2910 the better option.

If you are using coax or optical to your receiver, there should be NO
difference between players. They should just pass on the digital stream
to the decoder in the receiver. Are you certain you didn't change some
setting on your receiver?
