Hello,

I can't watch some of my DivX movies on Philips DVP642/17 DivX DVD
Player.

I installed several codecs on my PC - such as DivX 5.2.1 Video Codec,
AC3 Audio Codec and such. Now I can watch any movie on my PC Windows
Media Player.

My question is: Is it possible to install additional codecs to Philips
DVP642/17 DVD Player. Something like: I download codec software to CD,
insert this CD to Philips DVP642/17 DVD Player and install the extra
codecs?

Can I do it? And if possible - how exactly?

Thanks,

Vlad

I recently downloaded and installed recent firmware upgrade for a Philips
DVD75 which allowed alot more functionality. Available on the download page
of Philips website.

You can only upgrade the firmware with one either provided by Philips, or by
someone who may have written or modified the existing firmware (usually, a
hacker, to bypass copy protection, etc). The entire file must be replaced
when you do this.

But they do come out with new firmware that supports new codecs, so check
the website to see if there might be a newer one.

no its not possible, all you can do is make sure youre running the latest
firmware rev. i dont know what a 951 is referred to by the other poster
but i guess ill look into it, because last i knew, the 642 was still the
best player for the $$$ when it comes to playing the vast majority
of PC based content.

currently my philips divx player is macrovision disabled. do yous think that if i upgraded my firmware, it would enable the macrovision? i wasnt sure if macrovision realised that macrovision was disabled on this player. not sure if they are pressuring philips to change its settings on this divx player.
