If not, it's useless to me, but I was hoping to switch from tivo...

No, if you hit record it starts recording from that point & flushes the
buffer.

No, but you can backup to any point in the buffer and output to a DVD
Recorder or VCR.

You can record the buffer if you feed an output into an input and do a |

I use my Replays to watch the news live.
Other than that most of the live TV I watch is HD. 8-)

Better to record it. You can watch while recording. This prevents
interruptions from automatic recordings.

You do need to do that. It looks like Replay will nave make a HD
model. That's why I've not subscribed to the HD channels on DirecTV.

You can record the buffer if you feed an output into an input and do a

Doing this would require having the replay recording from 2 sources
simultaneously, something it will not do.
For example, if you were watching a live show from input 1, and tried
to save the buffer by connecting an output to input 2 and record input
2. Doing this would require switching the Replay input away from input
1, which would cause loss of the part of the program not yet recorded
as well as causing the Replay to delete the buffer contents. You might
get a recording of a video feedback loop, but nothing of that program
you wanted.
How about trying things before recommending them?

Once I got away from VCRs for everything I hooked one up to the output of my
RTV. If I really do end up with something in the cache I can't live without I
can spin it out to tape.
I don't really surf on the RTV but I do end up watching whatever channel it was
last recording when I am done with my recorded show. As often as not this is
MSNBC (from Imus) and I will end up watching the news. Sometimes I do see some
clip I would like to save. |

I haven't had a need to save the buffer yet, but would probably record
it to another Replay.

No, it does not. Many people record the live buffer by setting a manual |
record and playing back the buffer from the beginning. You do not record
from 2 sources. Changing the tuner channel will empty the buffer, but of
course you don't do that. Granted, it is a PITA, but possible if you
have a need like watching something broacast live and an event happens.
You can look up a how-to on the avsforum archives.

That seems unlikely. Of course, software upgrades can do strange
stuff.

Maybe you didn't realize that these things can be VERY hard to find
without knowing the search string. Since you're known to be honest and
have actually found this, you could provide it.

I spent almost an hour looking on that forum and found nothing of the
sort. You could provide a specific URL like some people do, or at
least a search string. These things can be VERY hard to find without
it.
