Gang
I bought a Panasonic DMR-E85H and it has an intermittent problem
controling my General Instruments cable box. Most of the time it
works fine - but now and again it drops a digit when it tries to
change the channel. That means I cannot be sure that the thing
will record the proper channel when I am away. Otherwise it
works fine.

Has anyone else had a similar problem with this DVD recorder?
It is still under warranty but I want to make sure that it
just cannot work with a General Instruments cable box.

Thanks
Rich

when i investigated getting this, someone else reported to me similar
problems.

i have not gotten one yet, but have a lot of experience with
mitsubishi and jvc cable box controllers. with them, you have to make
sure that the ir emitter is properly positioned relative to the ir
sensor in the cable box. after the cleaning woman comes through, i
have to readjust them.

panasonic vcr cable box controllers do not use an ir emitter, they
just broadcast the ir signal and you have to guarantee a path to the
sensor yourself. when i had such a panasonic vcr i placed the cable
box on top of it, and it worked flawlessly.
