I have done just a little video editing, and while it has gone ok, I found
sound sync to be an issue. I have a pretty decent computer system, but only
on board audio (soundmax). Would a sound card clear up sound sync issues,
or would it be a watse of money. I could get a sound blaster audigy pretty
cheap and was thinking of trying it out. Anybody think this would help, or
are there other low cost sound cards that would do a better job? TIA

system

P4 3 ghz HT
asus p4p800
768 pc 2700 ram
system drive, WD 120 gb ATA133
Storage drive WD 200 gb SATA
radeon 9600 pro

The main cause of Sound Sync issues are through analogue video capture
cards, and a new sound would be extremely unlikely to effect this. Either
get a Hardware Mpeg2 encoder card, or a firewire DV Video bridge device,
otherwise you'll be chasing the audio sync issues for a long time.

Otherwise a nice fast PC.

Thanks for the reply. A Hardware Mpeg2 encoder card? Sorry never heard of
this, any one in particular you would suggest? I was having trouble with
the ads instant dvd 2.0 wth my analog tapes, and returned it. I'm going to
try to capture via my digital video camera's pass through (once it gets back
from repairs). Think I would still have sound sync problems using that
method? Thanks again

You should not have any problems using this method.

Digital Camcorder with Analogue Inputs, they work wonderfully, and the
quality is as good as all the analogue capture cards. If you can get it to
work in pass through mode. They have been reported to produce results nearly
as good as using the Cream of Capture devices - the Cannopus AVDC 100.

You need to try a good editor if you are using mpeg captures. Try VideoReDo
(there is a trial).

Although the Instant DVD 2 with the newest drivers and CapWiz work perfectly
for me, another choice that gets high marks from users is the Hauppauge PVR
250. Yet another is the most recent version of Plextor Convertx (TV).

The Hauppauge PVR 150, 250 & 350 are all Hardware Mpeg2 encoder cards, but
there are plenty of other options: especially in the UK where Digital
Freeview captures work well.
Also the Hauppauge PVR 150 is currently good value ~£40-50. And if you do
not need the TV Out of the 250, why pay more?

Would second this, and to boot you get a good video camera. The

results here have been very good.
