Clearly you're passionate on this subject and your personal connection
puts you in that 1/6 minority that I'm thankful to not be part of.
Again, I'm very sorry for your experience. I hope there's a point
where your individual experience becomes less painful that you aren't
so prone to villify anyone who steps within 1 country mile of the
subject matter with an air of anything but 100% scorn anger and
hatred.

You are right, there's absolutely NO humor in child sexual abuse. We
agree on this.

But that's not really what the joke that started us down this path is
entirely about. I'm not sure if-- given your experience and extremity
of your feelings on the subject--that I'll be effective in getting you
to agree at all, but I'll try.

There is extreme irony in the Church and churches in general (the
keepers of morality telling us right and wrong) being places where
you're likely to find the most heinous of all vermin--i.e. child sex
predators.

Some folks have the luxury of being able to suspend their abhorrence
of the heinousness of these individual acts just enough to be able to
step back a little and lampoon the Church on the basis of this extreme
moral irony. They're not laughing at the acts themselves, because the
individual acts are unspeakably horrible as we both agree.

Comedy involves risk-taking. Comedy is also a coping mechanism by
which people take the edge off of something that can be otherwise
horribly consuming and too difficult to deal with as a world problem
without a little levity. Steve Martin said "Comedy is Not Pretty."

Again, I'm very sorry for your experience. I'm sorry if my jab at
Catholicism (for the horrible transgressions of its priests who are
supposed to be the keepers of the moral order and whom they kept
shuffling around to other parishes and sweeping incidents under the
rug for years) took collateral toll in offending you and the entire
class of victims you're carrying the flag for.
