I enjoy singing while playing the piano or guitar. Any recommendations for a
hands-free mic that does not require a stand?

Like a lapel mike? Unless you're going to hang it from the ceiling, lay it
on the floor, or stick it to your person, you're going to need stand even if
it's practically built in to the mike. |

That's a headset mic. They are common and popular among the energetic
move around a sing sorta performers, and their audio quality can be
excellent. There are wired and wireless headset mics available, and
you really do get what you pay for with these.
That all said, for whatever you want to do from singing to aerobics
instruction, it's hard to go too wrong with a Sennheiser Evolution
Series EW152 wireless headset. One of our members uses one
periodically for harassing the crowd while playing guitar:

Cost should be around $499 or less depending on your negotiating
skills.
AKG makes something less expensive, though I can't vouch for its
performance first hand.

If you don't need wireless, you can save several hundred bucks and get
a good performing headset mic for around $200 or less. Depending on
whether your need something with an XLR plug or a 1/4" plug (ask the
person who runs the sound equipment you'll be using this with), will

Quality varies among these, so it's best if you know your
requirements. Is feedback a big concern, are you performing on a loud
stage, is there a certain look you need, if wireless, choose a

For musical purposes, a lapel mike is the Wrong Answer. A good headset
mike may be reasonable, even though it makes you look a bit geeky. |

"Geeky" is in style! Look at all the top performers and the promo for the
Care Bear movie! Headset mics are IN. It is difficult to beat the
Sennheiser G2 wireless except to change the mic to a Countryman flesh toned
mic.

You need to get out more. Headset mics are being used in all types of
venues and by all kinds performers, bluegrass, country, rock, conference
presenters, schools, churches, comedians, etc. Then there are the
increasing number of flesh toned mics that are almost invisible. I remember
a preacher I thought was using a lav, but after service I saw his
Countryman.

Also if you NEED both hands free, like when I do martial arts demonstrations
or for performers who want their hands free to express themselves or
presenters who need both hands free. |

intolerant of all others.
If Protestant ministers were the ones making headlines for pedophile
acts, I'd have said "This wasn't in a Protestant church was it?" with
cheeky equal opportunity. Besides, 14 years of Catholic education
gives on a sense of entitlement in making fun of the Church. Though,
I have to confess I gave Catholicism for Lent some time in the 80's.

Very low. Remined me of the predators I am presently doing a research paper
on, attempting to discover how a predator can get a child to be a willing
victim who would even report to the predator when a parent questions the
child about the predator and wilingly and eagerly protects the predator.

Sorry to disapoint you, but the Catholic church is only the first to be
exposed. The problem is just as wide-spread in all other denominations. As
a victim of child sexual abuse and the husband of a victim of child sexual
abuse and as one who is studying and teaching others how to avoid the
extreme sickness of child sexual abuse, I find no humor in this topic. I
just checked out a book for a research project I am working on that contains
interviews with offenders. There is nothing funny about sexual abuse.
I suggest you read a book called Predators: Pedophiles, Rapists, and other
Sex Offenders, by Anna C. Salter. DON"T read it while eating. You just
might vomit it up. The average number of children totally destroyed by each
of the sex offenders is about 100. These predators are extremly sick and
will continue to molest even after being convicted several times. There is
no room for joking about such sick and perverted and demented individuals.
Their victims are just a "piece of meat."

card there.
I don't fault you for being offended or finding no humor in any of it.
I'll even give you wide enough swath to let your libelous hinting you
gave slide by.
I'm very sorry for your experience. I think we can certainly all
agree that ped0philes who act on their urges are among the most
heinous, vile, despicable of characters to roam the face of the earth.
The horrible sadness in it (according to what even casual listeners to
Dr. Drew Pinsky of Loveline would repeat) is that most pedophiles
(defined as adults sexually attracted to children) are very often
survivors of similar such abuses. Pinsky makes a point to abused
callers that it's not uncommon that their attractions are all screwed
up because of their experiences, but it's essential that they not act
on these attractions. Unfortunately there are those who do, and
graduate onto the heinous predator ranks, so the cycle very sadly
self-perpetuates.
I have friends that have survived such abuses and it's certainly no
laughing matter for them depending on where they are in their
recovery.
Again, sorry to have touched this nerve and sorry for your experience.
For those that found humor in it, we can count ourselves lucky to have
the luxury of being able to by virtue of not having such horrible
experiences.

Luxury in finding humor in a sicko who has over a 1,000 victims before one
is believed? In a sicko who rapes his 9yo nephew while his victim's mother
is in hte house? In a sicko who puts a plastic bag over his son's head,
ripping it off when he starts passing out and changing color, then sticking
his penis in his face and forcing him into oral sex as he comes to? In a
sicko who forces his 4yo daughter to engage in oral sex and has her in bed
with him? In a sicko who breaks into a house just after her parents leave
for work, before she goes to elementary school, who enjoys hearing their
crys of pain and anguish? In a sicko who threatens to kill the little 4
yo's mother if she doesn't start participating? I don't call that luxury,
I call that ignorance or sickness.
I'm glad you are the 5 out of 6 boys who didn't experience this, but there
is no humor in child sexual abuse. My goal is to increase the number of
boys and girls who avoid this, like MY daughter avoided her potential
abuser, she walked out. Do you have any children? If so, you had better
start taking this issue MUCH more seriously! Don't drop your child off at
the soccer park or baseball park. Stay with them as they practice and have
a game and observe the coaches for signs of unwarrented attractions and
attentions to children. Give them the love that the predator is more than
willing to supply. Encourage them when they fail or a predator will fill in
the gap. Listen to their concerns or a sicko will be glad to listen to your
child for the payoff of a willing sex partner. Train your child to say "NO,
YOU'RE NOT MY DAD!" if a person tries to approach them, whether stranger or
uncle or teacher. Teach them how to draw attention to themselves if someone
tries to abduct them from a store or force them in a restaurant bathroom.
