advice/suggestions on what to get.
Which model of burner you got? And are you happy with it?
What features should I look for when shopping for a new burner?
Are DVD burners or CDRW about the same price?

I think you should decide first on which software you prefer for burning
your cd/dvd. I prefer Ahead's Nero software.
Then go to their website and study their list of drives which are accepted
as compatible with that software. Then try to select a drive which is
packaged with that particular software.
If you have a stand-alone DVD player which accepts DVD+R/W but not DVD-R/W,
make sure that your DVD burner will handle that type of blank DVD.
There are so many to choose from. I use a 2 year old Pioneer-106 and I have
settled on the DVD+R/W as my media type of choice. Both my stand-alone
players handle everything I have tried.
I prefer http://www.newegg.com as my source for new purchases. Their
website has 1000's of reviews (both good and bad) by individuals who have
purchased items and offered back their opinions. I have purchased from them
many times, but I confess I am too lazy to contribute a review. Any review
that I would write considering their service would have to be positive.
Good luck,
