Hi,
I've bought this DVD charger some years ago.
The player works well, but it's limited to region 2 and not CD-R / DVD-R
compatible.
Is there a chip or firware upgrade to solve these problems?

To solve the region issue, most likely. There is nothing you can do to make
it play recordable media. It will be almost certainly be cheaper to replace
than to have it modded for region free
