Re: Camcorder External Microphone Question |

Of course it depends on your desired use, but I bought a Sony wireless lapel
mike system, WCS-999. It has reasonable sound, and the
transmitter/microphone combo can be easily hidden on the person filmed. It
is in the UHF frequency range, which is good, and it's FM for low noise, but
I found it didn't have very much range to it. If you're within about 30
feet of the subject, you should be fine, but beyond that you run the risk of
gaps in your audio. Cost is around $99. For the price it does a pretty
good job, but because of the range for my next one I will invest another
$100 or so and go with a higher end model (although Sony doesn't have much
else in wireless lapel mikes, so it would be another brand). For under $100
I'm happy with the WCS-999.
Good hunting!
