Are new DVD burners limiting what software can be used with |
|
|
Hi
I need a little help here. I'm living in Japan so my laptop is running
Windows XP Japanese(infuriating because you can't read the user
manuals properly).
From what I read(could understand) in the instruction manual, the DVD
burner that came with the laptop will only let me use the
pre-installed software to burn to DVD.
I used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink to get the movie into the correct
format for copying. But when I tried to use Nero to do the burning it
couldn't find the DVD drive. DVD Decrypter also had the same problem
with buring even though it could find the drive when ripping the dvd.
This is when I started to look at the user manual (and cursing the
computer).
Is this a problem anyone else has come across? If so, is there a way
around it? I would like to use my english software.
Thanks for your time
Paul

Is this a current full (or demo) version of Nero and not an OEM supplied
with another writer?

It's a full Demo version of Nero that I downloaded from their website.
Would any of the freeware software that I downloaded have messed up
the drivers for the burner?
Thanks |

The burner does not use drivers to burn it uses software. As far as windows
is concerned it's a CD player.
Nero is a stand-alone application that provides its own drivers. Sometimes
the reasons why it doesn't work seem incomprehensible e.g. my DVD writer
stopped writing DVDs (though writing CDRs still worked) about the time I
added the Windows SP2 update. Restoring a backup from before that update
restored the write ability.
Nero will undoubtedly have another update at the end of the month. Before
doing anything rash, hang on and see if that fixes the problem.

Hi
Thanks for the help. I finally got it to burn some dvds. Turns out
that the burner (Panasonic/Matshita UJ-811) wont burn to DVD+R discs.
I didn't even know there was a difference. I have 10 blank DVD+R discs
now that are only useful as beer mats:-( |
