Non-progressive-scan region-free PAL-to-NTSC player? |
|
|
I recently came back to the US from Europe with some Region 2 PAL DVDs. I
knew when I got them that I needed a region-free DVD player that could read
PAL and generate signals in NTSC for my TV, and I also knew that there are
a number of inexpensive (<$100) DVD players that would fill the bill. What
I didn't know until my wife reminded me was that our TV (a JVC AV-32D501)
is incompatible with progressive-scan DVD players. This is from JVC tech
support:
A Progressive Scan DVD Player can be connected to this television, but
the AV-32D501 cannot support Progressive Scan signals. The DVD Player
would have to have the Progressive Scan function deactivated and send
Interlace signals to the television.
So what I'm looking for is an inexpensive DVD player than can be made
region-free and that can read both PAL and NTSC and can generate
non-progressive scan NTSC signals. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Scott

This is a non-issue. Just about every progressive-scan player defaults
to interlace mode for compatibility. If you want to use it on a
progressive-scan display, you have to manually configure the player to
output a progressive signal. |

....and progressive only comes over the component ports. The composite
and S-video should be unaffected.
