cheap home dvd player |
|
|
Hello,
I'm looking for a cheap home dvd 5.1 player. Ok, maybe tell you first why
cheap ? Well, I have a dvd recorder in my livingroom, a dvd player zonefree
in my bedroom. Now, I received for my birthday a 5.1 surround system of my
wife...the only problem is that neighter one of them support a 5.1 !!!!!
Women...:)
So, that's the story, and now the rest.
Today I was in Mediamarkt (Belgium) and saw two types.
1. Tangent D-400 109 ?
plays also ntsc dvd
2.Sony LS 785
199?
Are there any other cheap (max 200?) dvd players that support 5.1., or any
other suggestions are welcome.
thx,
Pascal

The Tangent D-400 is a Mediatek 1389 based player- probably one of the
better Mpeg-IV players around, however the Mediatek 1389 DE & GE based
players do seem to have compatibility problems with DVD-Videos. Apparently
FE based players have been sorted. Most work, but occasionally you'll get a
disc that either will refuse to play, refuse to play a certain episode in a
TV series, or a certain sub-section of a DVD (ie special features, making of
etc) Or a episode will start 10 minutes in. I have a Mediatek 1389 GE based
player and it's quite annoying when certain original DVD-Videos have some
quirks. Apparently Mediatek know of this, but I wouldn't hold my breath for
a fixed firmware.
I would use a Mediatek 1389 based player as a Mpeg-IV/MP3 only player, and
perhaps use another player for Original DVD-Video's only. Mediatek players
should only be around £50-£60 now.
Can't help with the Sony. |

I have not come across any that don't support 5.1 sound these days
including the cheap DVD players. If they don't support for 5.1 sound
then they don't sell as most people want to get the most from their
movie DVD's these days.
Check your 5.1 setup and either you connect the DVD player to the
sound system by a coaxial cable or by 5 separate cables.
