Am interested in getting a Hauppauge 250 or PVR-USB2. Is there a
significant drop by using a SUB2 instead of a plug in card?

I have the USB2 card to use with my laptop. From time to time it happens
that the card is not initialised and recognised properly by the computer
(Win XP). I have to turn off/on both the card and computer and then it works
fine again. I do not know if the IDE card has the same issues. If you have
USB2 ports on your computer there should be no problem. With USB2 ports -
maximum speed is 480Mbps, maximum bitrates card can generate is 12Mbps for
video, IIRC. Even with sound and control bits, the reserve is big enough...

As long as you have a USB2 port, there is no difference that I
can see.
I have the USB2 on a 3.2gp4 laptop (4200 rpm HDD) and the H250
in a 2gp4 tower.
In either PC, capture at 12 mbps is unaffected by other
processor intensive programs (running at low priority) such as
conversion of captured files to xvid/divx versions.

The only time I get notified of an issue between XPHE-SP2 and
the USB2 is when the device is physically disconnected as I
power up the laptop. You might check your USB2 connector (at
both ends) and try using a different port on the PC??

Thanks for your help guys, I'm picking up a PVR-USB2 based on what
you tell me. I have a couple of low end Hauppauge cards that work
pritty good, but am looking to upgrade - hopefully to get a better
(and brighter) display.
