Does anyone know a software which enables to amplify directly the microphon
input to the loudspeakers output off the soundcard, or can it be made with a
windows standard software?

Thanks

"it's in there"

Windows mixer has the ability to control the gain coming out of your
soundcard. Start>programs>accessories>entertainment>volume control
is where you'll find it and to get to the mic settings you have to
poke around sometimes to make sure the mic slider is visible and
such.

Now, whether that level is sufficient to drive the speakers you're
talking about is a hardware question, not a software question.

What sort of speakers?

I would like to take simple loud speakers (with integrated amplifyer) which
are directly connected to the sound cards output. I only need to amplify the
human voice 3..4 times louder the quality is not the important point.

Thanks and Regards
Pierre

So you're using a computer sound card as a microphone preamplifier.
You'll get better results with hardware made for that specific purpose
but you can certainly do it. Every sound card has a line level output
that you can connect to a line level input on an integrated amp. Some
things you should know:

1. The quality of sound cards varies tremendously, particularly with
respect to A/D conversion. Most of them are optimized for gamers, who
use only D/A conversion. Some of the older/cheaper ones can play sounds
reasonably well but are total trash when it comes to recording.

2. You need to learn how to use a software mixer to control the gain
coming into and going out of the sound card. The Windows mixer can do
both but not in the same dialog box. You have to do Options > Properties
and select Playback or Recording to switch back and forth.

3. If you record the microphone input to a wave file, there are lots of
programs that will allow you to boost the overall gain.

However, there is nothing you can do to improve the S/N ratio of a WAV file,
once it has been recorded.

Spring for a decent sound card to start with. They aren't expesnive.

Actually, there are many very good noise reduction programs. I use this
one, which is a DirectX plugin and works with virtually all wave
editors.

The "Ray Gun" is essentially a heuristic multiple notch filter with high
attack and decay rates. Yes, it will remove some noise - at the expense of
losing desired signal which happens to fall in the same notch.

I don't know if it's worth $149, but certainly removing pops and clicks
from vinyl counts as improved S/N, so I'll stand corrected on the broad
definition.

You still can't increase the signal without also increasing the noise,
however, so getting e good quality recording in the first place is where
the smart money goes.
