Need a new VCR part II |
|
|
I went to buy the Mitsubishi HSU448 tonight. The store manager at PC Richard told me they
had 3 units in stock. When I got there they had two display units and one more in an open
box. :-( So that model may be a lost cause. The other chains, Best Buy, Circuit City and
Electonics Expo (formerly The Wiz) don't carry it.
Now what? From what I've seen of reviews from people who've bought JVC, Sony and Panasonic
they are all very low quality products. I've thought about the Mistubishi HSU-449 which
replaces the HSU-448 ,but the only two opinions of it I have found are discouraging. One
from a person in this group and another below.

If you get a good buy on the display or open box units, if they have a
full warranty, and if they come with remote/manual/accessories, I'd go
for it. |

I've thought about it. They had an open box unit and offered me $10 off. Someone may have
returned a lemon so for me it is not worth it. Display models could also be returned
lemons or not. You don't really know. I guess I'll have to research other brands and
models since there is very little information available that I could find on the newer
Mitsubishi HSU449. Thank you. |

Use extreme caution with display units. They may indeed be a return or a
"lemon", but for some mysterious reason, I find that they will only give you
a 60-90 day warranty on display items, which I find suspicious in itself.
Also, keep in mind that display units will have all ready had wear and tear
put on them, with people pushing the buttons and playing around with the
thing. However, on the other hand, I've also purchased MANY items that were
defective right out of the box. Bought a Sony cassette deck some years ago
that refused to power up, returned a Zenith TV because of no sound, had to
repackage an electric fan because sparks flew from the motor when I plugged
it in! There is so much JUNK being marketed out there today that it isn't
funny. It astounds me that this stuff even passes quality control...
Unfortunately, it's quantity over quality nowadays.
Caveat emptor,
Dave.

I happened to come across this site, and it might help give you a better
idea as to what make or model to choose from. I happen to agree with most
everything that he says. Have a look:

Good Luck to you,

Which is why I included the caveat that the display/open box units must
have the same warranty and return policy as a new/boxed unit. |

Hi Ric, you're absolutely correct, however, I noticed that for Toshiba at
least, their warranty explicitly states that items sold for commercial or
display purposes only have a 90 day parts/labour warranty on them. I found
that incredulous to say the least. It doesn't say much about the ethics of
these companies does it?

Not to sound racist or anything but alot of the time its where it is |
manufactured now. If you are getting paid $1 a day, do you really care if you
put that capacitor in the right way? |
