Hello all,

I bittorrented a movie I thought was going to be divx. It turns out to be a
large 1.5 gig folder with sub folders in it. Im not sure of the type of
file(s) I have. The folders are labled:

CD1
CD2
Sample
Subpack
ms info

Within the first two folder labeled CD are files with these names:
dvl-incre1
dvl-incre1.r30

there are appx 30 of each in each folder labeled CD. The dvl files look
like compressed files used by programs like Winrar. Is this what they are?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

This is a two-disk SVCD version of 'The Incredibles'. You're right in that
the files must be opened with WinRAR these will usually give you CD images
or directories to burn and play (If you want, you could actually play the
MPEG2 file without burning).

Yes. When unarchived with Winrar they create .bin and .cue files which can
be used to burn a disc. Please note though that this will double the amount
of space taken up in your folder so make sure you have plenty left on your
hard drive.

Thanks to both of you....

I did in fact load the first file into Winrar and it extracted a full .avi
file. The quality is awesome as well. I am looking further into it as I do
not have much winrar or dvl experience. It took appx 20 minutes to extract
each 700 meg folder to final product. Is that about right for this?

Again, thanks,
SL

It takes me about a minute using a 2.0 GHz PC.

I screwed up. After posting, I repeated everything again for learning
experiences. It did take a very short time to "expand" the files. My
homebuilt 3 gigger did it fast. It makes me wonder what I did to slow it up
the first time?

Another poster mentioned that It will make the bin and que files. I did not
end up with that result using Winrar. I simply turned them into .avi files
and used them on my dvp642 player as is. I do encode dvd's for friends
every now and then. Is this (dvl) type of file geared to be used "as is"
for use with something like DVDSanta or Nero Ultra? Again, Im learning....
:)

thanks for the answers all,
SL

You did not turn them into AVI's. Neither did Winrar, in the sense that
it "created" an AVI file. The original file poster had an AVI file
ALREADY, and simply processed it with Winrar. The original file(s) will
pop out of Winrar when you uncompress them, whether Bin/Cue, Text, EXE
or in your case, an AVI.

Yes, there is a lot to learn. Have fun, take care ... winfield =)

A near-full or fragmented hard drive will slow the file processing down
considerably as will any processor intensive application running in the
background.

My particular version of Nero will not accept AVI's for burning DVD's, only
MPEG's. I have to use TMPGEnc to convert the AVI's to MPEG first. This can
take anything from 2-27 hours depending on length of programme and picture
quality.
