Region free mods: "ICOS 725 chipset" |
|
|
Does anyone have technical insight into the hardware mods that allow a
wide variety of major-brand DVD players to be region-free? With the cheap
Chinese players, the firmware is often shared between many brands, and it
has been disassembled such to reveal where simple zaps cane be applied to
disable region coding and Macrovision. But what about the places selling
Sony, Panasonic, JVC, Pioneer, etc. etc. modified players, or offering
modification service?
There are plenty of dealers on the net selling modified players; usually
it's a combination of firmware and hardware changes. However the term
"ICOS 725 chipset" keeps coming up; touted as though its choice is
something desireable. I tried searching for technical info on what,
exactly, it is ... and came up with nothing.
