Is it better to edit out the commercials when you watch the program or
is the process of editing out the commercials so distracting that it is
hard to enjoy the program? Thank you in advance for all replies.

My own strategy, which depends on what type of DVD machine you use, is to
playback the recording, and set chapter points (click of a button on
Panasonic E85) where adverts start, and end. Then use chapter view, and
bingo, you can erase at a stroke the advert chunks.
You have the choice of watching and setting these as you go, or if you don't
mind the slight spoiler effect, do it in advance, forwarding quickly to the
ad breaks.
As another hint, set a chapter point when you see the program episode name,
and this makes it easy to set thumbnail image, again if your recorder does
this feature.

To avoid spoilers when setting chapter breaks in advance I do it by
first hitting pause and then use commercial skip to jump ahead a
minute or two at a time. As soon as I get a frame with no network logo
I back up to the start of the commercials and set the chapter break.
Those logos are good for something after all. :)
