Keeping Subtitles when Using DVD Shrink |
|
|
Hi,
I have problems at times capturing the English subtitles in both
foreign movies and in American movies with some subtitles (i.e. Kill
Bill1 and 2). I use DVD Shrink which is a great program. Am I missing
some settings to configure? Thanks.

Unless you are using the 'reauthor' option Shrink will automatically save
all subtitles. You have to manually untick the relevant boxes to remove
them.

Well I do use reauthor sometimes because it is necessary to keep the
compression ratio in a usable amount, but I usually check the
"English" subtitles box in the reauthring window, so I thought that
would take care of it. But it doesn't always seem to work. Does that
mean subtiles will not work in reauthor? Again, thanks for your help. |

You're welcome. When I reauthor with subtitles the movie often defaults to
subtitles even though I didn't select them. I have to cycle through the
subtitle button on the remote handset to get rid of them. It is possible
that you are having the opposite problem and that by cycling through the
subtitle selection button you will eventually find the ones you are looking
for? Shrink has never failed to record subtitles when I have selected them.

This seems to be a DVD player related. Given the same Shink
produced DVD, some players will default to subtitles on, and not
necessarily the proper set - such as English for non-English in
bilingual region 1 vids. Other DVDs will default to subtitles
off, even though the default s/b on.
It may be the fault of DVD Shrink, in reassembling the IFOs for
a "re-author," but it is indeed simply solved from the remote
control.
Since subtitles consume such a miniscule percentage of the DVD
space, I opt to leave them all in the Shink'ed video set. This
seems to reduce the frequency of the error, tho not eliminate
it. And it definitely eliminates the mis-labeled subtrack
problem, leaving you with the wrong track, if you edit out
others.
