I finally got a chance to watch DVDs on a DLP projector, my friend's
Optoma LP750 Projector, and the rainbows noticably bothered me at times.

Question: Have they made any improvement to newer DLP projectors in that
regards? I heard a rumor that some of them use a faster colour wheel to
reduce the problem.

Question: Are affordable 3-panel units on the horizon?

Question: Have newer LCD projectors reduced the screen door effect and
the lack of dark blacks? Until it blew up, I had an NEC MT-800.

I'm wondering if I should be thinking about getting a new projector now,
or taking a pass until technology gets better and cheaper...

I have heard of 6-segment color wheels and 2x or 3x wheels. Your best bet
would be to look into www.avsforum.com -- you will find enough there to keep
you busy for hours, just reading.
