Firewire Problems? |
|
|
I am using a Sony DSR-PDX10 and, so far, have done all my shooting in 16:9
DVCam mode, with much success.
Today, however, I bumped into a problem. One of my clients sent me a couple
of MiniDV tapes (as opposed to mini DVCam!) for eventual transfer to a DVD
after quite a bit of post.
But neither of my capture devices (Canopus Storm2 or direct capture on a
Sony VAIO notebook) would read anything. I thought at first the firewire was
up the chute, but a new cable produced the same results!
Then I put a previously recorded DVCam tape in, and presto, perfect
capture!.
So, thought one: the PDX10 will not output firewire from miniDV. Tapes play
(on the flip out LCD screen) with no problem.
Then a brainwave! Transfer it (via Firewire) to our DSR300 DVCam cam. No
joy....nothing! Tried a DVcam cassette - and perfect transfer.
Can't even transfer by analog cables.
Then a penny dropped. Could these tapes supplied by my client be PAL????
Do Pal miniDVs playback on NTSC cams, but not to the extent of onward
firewiring??? Wouldn't have though so, but maybe,
Does anyone have any bright ideas? Any suggestions? Any similar situations?
Thanks, in anticipation
