Philips DVDR75 question |
|
|
Hi, group.
On a DVD+RW disc, I erased one section that had contained a movie.
That made for THREE sections on the disc: (1) blank section: 1hr 23mins
at M3 speed; (2) feature-length movie; (3) blank section: 28 mins at M3
speed.
In my Philips DVDR75 machine, I highlighted the FIRST blank section (1)
and tuned to a channel where a movie was about to start.
When the movie started, I pressed the Record button (in M3 speed-mode).
BUT the recorder started using the THIRD blank section (3) - which was
inadequate for the space required.
What went wrong, please? How do I force the recorder to record on the
section I want it to record on?!
Thanks - Ken

That should have worked, unless you ...
1) Pressed the Record button long enough to activate the "Safe Record"
function that will start at the last free area. (User's Man §8).
Could the remote button got stuck maybe?
2) by mistake used a DVD+R instead of +RW. But you should have
discovered that by now, I guess.
Try it again on a test-disc.
I often use this method on my DVDR-70 (with firmware from December
2003).
(Even after standby, the position pointer is used to define the start
point.)

Another possibility would be if you had mistaken a DVD+R disc for a
+RW. One visible difference is that an erased title is marked "Deleted
Title" instead of "Empty Title". (It still shows a duration of the
title depending on the current recording mode.)

Thanks hugely, Jan. I did exactly what you described: held down the |
Record button long enough to activate the 'Safe Record' function.
Ignorant me!
(Normally, I am ANXIOUS to activate 'Safe Record' in case I record OVER
something that I want to keep!)
