I think I am going to get a DVD player and some DVDs.
I have a VCR recorder, and hope to hook up the DVD player
so that both are hooked up to my TV. Should this be a problem?

I plan to record on tape, as its cheaper, at least for now.
But some films are only on DVD.

Also, any recommendations for sites to visit
(I found fatwallet.com, e.g.), or recomendations
of brands (I saw a complaint about picture quality
of a cheap Philips--$40.00 I think, and Panasonic was
recommended instead). I will probably go thru Amazon unless
I find something really good elsewhere.

Or is it better to go and buy in person at a store.

I am new to doing business online. I would like to do
business this way if I can avoid problems, as it makes
things easy.

I would go with a DVD burner instead of a VCR, but thats just me.

DVD-R's cost about the same as VHS tapes now, I got a 5 pack of phillips
DVD-Rs for $4.99 the other day. But if your new you would want to buy
DVD-RW incase you mess up you can reburn them.

But as for DVD player brands, I dont know I never bought one, I play
them in my xbox, but my brother bought a Samsung and it works awesome,
it plays regular DVD's, DVD-R, DVD+R and VCD's too.

But If I were you I would probably go and check myself, most stores have
them out to where you can play them to see if your happy with the way
they perform, so thats what I'd do.

Thanks for your reply. I know nothing of DVDs though, and am not
familiar with your terms, like DVD-R.

Could you explain or tell me where to find out about this?

When you say a DVD burner, do you mean a recorder?

What is an xbox? Do you mean you pay and record on your computer?

I am talking about recording movies from TV, as I do with VCR.
As you see, my ignorance is boundless.

A DVD Burner (DVD Drive that writes DVD's)

A Xbox is a video game system that can play DVD's, and its made by
Microsoft.

A DVD-R is a blank DVD that you can record Video on, it will play in all
DVD Players.

They actually have DVD Recorders that work like VCR's, instead of
recording onto tape, it records whatever your watching onto DVD. But
those are more expensive.

Matt

P.S. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask.
