Question about DVD Decrypter and Shrink |
|
|
Got a question in regards to the two pieces of software I am having
trouble with when to take a movie from a DVD to copy to a blank DVD-R:
DVD Decrypter
&
DVD Shrink
Here is what I am doing.
I open Decrypter select main movie and send it to my HD.
Since most movies are 8 to 8 gigs these days I am trying
to use Shrink to make it fit on a 4 gig.
Problem I am having is this.
When I select Open file with shrink and point to where the sub folder
VIDEO_TS
is located, I get an error: cannot find *.IFO file.
Even if I go right to the source, Shrink will not find it.
What am I doing wrong??
Thanks for any reply or web site you can point out.

First: In most cases you don't need to use DVD Decrypter at all. DVD |
Shrink will decrypt and process your movie just fine.
Second: If you come across the rare case where DVD Shrink has trouble
ripping the movie, that's the time to use DVD Decrypter. But if you do,
you MUST rip the Full Movie, not Movie Only. Select all files, in other
words. DVD Shrink can't process a partial rip. |

Geeez....what an indepth and helpful answer. |
If you havent yet discovered that people do this sort of thing for a
wide variety of reasons, perhaps you should go to a more basic ng and
debate the pros and cons of ripping. |

I am having a similar problem to curiousK.I could not even find the file
after I used decrypter.Just used shrink and the dvd was perfect.Prob a
silly question but what does decrypter actually do and what indication is
there to tell me to use decrypter before shrink.Hope this makes sense.
Thanks.

You would opt to use DVDDecrytper before DVD Shrink if you wanted to
edit out such things as FBI nag screens, trailers, TV spots, deleted
scenes, alternate endings, etc. In other words, if what you want to
end up with it ony the movie and the associated menus - including
audio menus and subtitle menus - but with all superfluous material
removed including functionality of menu buttons that are no longer
functional, then you would use DVD Decrypter to rip ALL the files on
the DVD and then you would use a program like DVDReMake or DVDReMake
Pro to remove all the extraneous material. After doing this and
confirming that all menus still work properly, the DVD is exported to
the HD and then fed into DVD Shrink where unwanted sound tracks and
subtitles files are deleted and, if necessary, the file is compressed
to fit on a 4.7GB DVD blank. DVD2One can also be used for this part
of the procedure and according to some, it works even better than DVD
Shrink. Once the compression is done, the image files (AUDIO_TS and
VIDEO_TS) are ready to burn to a DVD blank. I've done nearly 200 DVD
rips using this sequence and, with few exceptions, it has worked
beautifully.

Oh I know there are a variety of EXCUSES, but everyone does it for the
SAME REASON -- to avoid paying for a DVD! |

Re: Question about DVD Decrypter and Shrink |

Well maybe for some - but for lots of others it is to avoid paying for the second, and third, and fourth DVD as
young kids slowly acquire the skills and physical competence to avoid wrecking their favourite CDs and DVDs
Remember that kids make mistakes, and most young kids simply do not have the physical dexterity and precision
needed to be error free when handling delicate items. But they need the practice to gain those skills - but many
(I reckon most) parents do not have the money to keep on buying replacement DVDs when the kids make those important
mistakes.
