Some good info here, but I can't get it to work.

http://www.evillabs.net/tivo/

First, when I add the Moonlight M71 Muxer, it only has Input 0. No Input 1.

Second, how do I get the DUMP object into the workspace.

TIA

Those instructions aren't totally clear.
Here it is in plain English:

Right-click on the Moonlight M71 Muxer, select Filter Properties.
Click on Transport Stream; under Value, double-click
on Transport Stream (value of Output parameter) and select Program Stream.
Double-click on Value of Parameter "Compatibility" and select DVD.
Then right-click on "Program 0x3e8" and select "Create Stream".
You should then have inputs 0 and 1. Click "OK". Now connect the video
output from your demuxer to the input0 pin and a second pin for input1
will appear. Connect the Audio output of the demuxer to this.

AS for Dump, look through your DirectShow filters. Do you see
Roxio Dump Filter or Moonlight DumpPos? Either will do.

Some people have been using nero vision with some success to but I could
not get it to work for me. I ended up going to the link he or she provided
for the Dump and that site helped me figure out how to install the Dump.ax
into the computer so that it would show up in the direct filters.
There are some good threads going on in the Tivo Community website
on this subject too.

thanks! Your supplemental procedures worked great!!!

Next question. I converted a 2.5 GB (1 hour show!) from .tivo format to
..mpg format. The new file is 2.8 GB. What., if anything, can I do to get
these files sizes down? I've downloaded some shows that are an hour long
and are only ~70 MB.

You can transcode it to a different format, at the cost of picture quality.

WMV, for example, can be compressed so much as to take about 100MB for
an hour. See:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/default.aspx

There are other solutions as well. Google is your friend (or should be!).

Thanks on the Muxer, but my Moonlight MEPG2 Demux only has a "video" output,
no audio. No settings on the "right click" either.

Help??

Don't try to use the auto generated boxes. It takes a little playing.

Did you first delete everything but the source box and start over?

Yep, but I got it to work by re-installing the TiVo desktop.
Must have lost a DLL somewhere <G>.

Thanks!

I am also having some difficulty with using GraphEdit and wonder if
you can help. I can find Moonlight DumpPos in the DirectShow filters.
But the only output I can get from it is .ASF; I believe i need to
get a MPG file? Any insight you have would be appreciated.

Get the "dump directshow filter" from this page
(http://www.shspvr.com/graph_build/fm_mp3_recording.html) and register it
with windows: copy it to "windows/system32", under start/run type "regsvr32
dump.ax". The "dump" filter will then show up under the directshow tab in
graphedit and will produce an mpeg.

For the life of me, following directions to the letter, I cannot get audio
in the extracted .mpgs. Video is fine, just no sound.

I did as the website instructed to decrypt the .TiVo file & convert it to
an .mpeg file. The problem I am having now is that when I try to burn it
to DVD it is putting a little white dot that jumps all over the screen,
and at the bottom of the screen a message scrolls across saying that my
"evaluation period has expired & to register the player at
http://www.moonlight.co.il" What can I do to get rid of this scrolling
message & white dot that bounces around the picture? Thanks.

Are you saying that you got lost after reaching the Moonlight web page?
It doesn't take much effort to find this:

Download Consumer Products
To activate the product you purchased, please follow the detailed
instructions of our knowledgebase.
http://www.moonlight.co.il/support/kb/

Purchase. Activate. Problem solved.
