No stereo - Mitsubishi M1000 |
|
|
My Mitsubishi HS-M1000 (SVHS, Nicam) won't record stereo sound in SP
mode. When played back (in any VCR) it is poor mono only.
LP mode is fine.
Playback in SP (of tapes recorded elsewhere) is ok too.
I tried cleaning the head but it didn't make any difference. Everything
looked clean and shiny anyway.
Does anyone know what might cause this symptom, and whether it would be a
straightforward fix.
It would be nice to make an informed decision about whether to repair.
Thanks for any help, Gary

Clean the heads again, or have it professionally done if you're shy about
popping the cover.
Try using a chamois swab (available at electronic shops), only this time use
lighter fluid (naptha), followed by an alcohol/head cleaner rinse to remove
any residue. DONT get any naptha on any plastic parts, or the pinch roller. |

how many hours on the heads?
this is often the first symptom of wear.
If not the case, if mono audio is also bad, check the backtension and
the pinch roller - replace if shiny.
if all the above and a good cleaning does not solve it and you've got
nothing to lose, look for presets for SP , mark original position if
poss, then see if slight adjustment helps any - pot could be dirty?
good luck, Ben |
