Help! Poor picture quality going through VCR. Is this Macrov |
|
|
I am trying to record from my camcorder onto my JVC HR-S3600U VCR but
the picture quality is unusuable. The VCR plays back VHS movies just
fine, and the camcorder works when I plug it directly into the TV, but
when I plug the camcorder into the VCR, hit the TV/VCR button, and
change the channel to video input, I get an extremely gray-saturated
picture of my camcorder movies. I've tried every input setting (Svideo
and composite) and channel, and everything suggested in the manual. I
even hooked my DVD player up to the VCR and the result was the same.
Does anyone know what this problem is or what can be done about it? If
this is some copy-protection scheme, it's pretty effective because the
output is entirely unusuable.
Thanks in advance,
- Cliff Snyder

Is this with a tape playing in the camcorder, or with it in Camera mode? If
it's in Camera mode, then the do-gooders have officially taken over the world. |

Macrovision only exists with copyright protected commercial tapes and
DVDs. So, unless you have such a tape in your camcorder, Macrovision
is not the problem. You might want to give the model number of your
camcorder (VHS-C? Hi8? DV?), and tell us *exactly* how everything is
wired. |

Hi Amishman,
I'm trying to record a camcorder tape of my vacation onto VHS, so it
is with a tape in and the camcorder on playback mode. I have a feeling
that it's not Macrovision because it's not doing a fade in/fade out
thing, just a very gray-saturated image, perhaps as if it's getting
too much color data from the video signal?? I don't really know why it
would be doing this, but I feel like I've tried every possible
configuration. Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
- Cliff

Try it in a neighbor's VCR. If it does the same thing there, then
it's the camcorder--not the VCR.

Thanks for your response Ric,
I don't know the model of camcorder (I don't have it right beside me
at this moment) but it is a Sony Digital Handycam. When I connect
through the composite output (a three ring 1/8" jack from the
camcorder to 3 RCA plugs) I get audio but only blue screen for the
video. When I switch the VCR's input setting from composite to svideo
and plugged an svideo cable from the camcorder's svideo out into the
VCR's svideo in, the very poor quality, extremely gray and washed-out,
picture is seen. I think it's a problem in the VCR, however, because
when I plug my DVD player into the VCR with the svideo connector, I
get the same poor picture results. The picture on both the DVD and the
Camcorder look fine when plugged directly into the TV. It's a mystery
to me why dubbing from camcorder to VCR should be this difficult...
Any more suggestions would be very much appreciated!
Cheers,

Your logic is good, if two otherwise good sources appear bad on the vid,
it's the vid
(Or the svhs lead) faulty.
Make sure first you have the vid set to external svhs input (Duh!)
This may not be as daft as it sounds, sometimes they'll pick up a bit when
set to aerial.
.......then try another lead.

I am basically stumped now, unless the camcorder is a different television
standard than the VHS VCR. |

Alright, I never figured out what the problem was. I tried the same
process on a friend's VCR and it worked perfectly. Anyway, the
solution turned out to be going out and buying another VCR. Thanks for
all the suggestions and help!
